This Civil Engineering MEng degree is designed to support students development as an effective learner, and also to equip them with the skills needed to function effectively in multidisciplinary engineering team environments.
From week one of this programme, students will be immersed in the unique interdisciplinary approach to learning. In Year 1 they will study alongside students from many other engineering disciplines, on a common Engineering programme. In Year 2 they will develop their core knowledge of civil engineering subjects, like: material science, structural analysis, hydraulics, surveying and more. In Year 3 they can choose to stay on the main civil engineering programme, or choose one of the two specialist pathways, in “Environmental Engineering” or “Flood and Coastal Engineering”. Year 4 of the programme includes advanced level study in subjects related to the chosen pathway.
Between Year 2 and Year 3 of this programme, Brunel have included the option to undertake a placement year. The placement year is a great opportunity to prepare students for the world of work. If they decide to undertake a placement, they could find themselves working in an office, design projects, or working outdoors, on construction sites. Brunel highly recommend taking a placement as it can improve their prospects of getting the job they most desire after graduating.
