The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences, all aimed at ensuring their future success. The Global First Year experience goes beyond academic, language, and cultural growth by offering the Career Accelerator program, which provides valuable professional skills to prepare students for a successful career.
The Career Accelerator program, designed specifically for international students, includes four semesters of professional development and career guidance, skills-based training, opportunities for exclusive internships, unique workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work.
Located in South Florida, the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International University offers a unique combination of living laboratories and access to biodiversity. With over 50 core faculty members conducting research on all seven continents, the department is research-intensive with annual funding in grants and contracts exceeding $10 million. Faculty research addresses a wide range of biological questions, spanning from molecules to ecosystems, and includes field- and laboratory-based studies in various environments.
Active areas of research in the department include cell and molecular biology, ecology, climate change, genetics, conservation biology, neurobiology, evolutionary biology, and more. Many faculty members specialize in tropical systems, such as tropical ecosystems and diseases. The Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences degree provides students with a solid foundation in areas like ecology, genetics, molecular biology, evolution, and physiology, preparing them for various career paths in the field of biology.
