The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences to help ensure their future success. The Global First Year experience goes beyond academic, language, and cultural growth by offering the Career Accelerator program, which provides valuable professional skills to prepare students for a successful career.
The Career Accelerator, designed specifically for international students, includes four semesters of professional development and career guidance, skills-based training, opportunities for exclusive internships, unique workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work. The School of Communication and Journalism at FIU offers over 70 undergraduate and graduate courses focused on providing the skills and aptitudes needed to succeed in today’s expanding world of media, including web-based, interactive, and digital communications.
Upon graduation, students will have a diverse portfolio of professional work and the confidence to compete for various jobs in the media industry, such as editors, reporters, photojournalists, researchers, copywriters, publicists, communication specialists, lobbyists, video bloggers, and more at public, private, and non-profit organizations worldwide. The Broadcast Media program is specifically designed for students interested in pursuing Broadcast Journalism or Television Production, offering courses that provide hands-on experience in both fields of study. Students have the opportunity to work in front and behind the camera as journalists, producers, videographers, editors, and in various technical positions.
