The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences, all aimed at ensuring their future success. The Global First Year experience goes beyond academic, language, and cultural growth, offering the Career Accelerator program to help students gain valuable professional skills for a successful career.
The Career Accelerator, designed specifically for international students, includes four semesters of professional development and career guidance, skills-based training, exclusive internship opportunities, unique workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work. The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies is a highly customizable degree that takes into account a student’s past experiences, current interests and abilities, and future career goals.
The Interdisciplinary Studies B.A. challenges students to define themselves, develop their potential, and make meaningful contributions to the world beyond academia. With a mix of traditional and online classes, this degree offers maximum flexibility and a broad learning experience. Students will develop the ability to make connections across disciplines, incorporate discussions of diversity, critically analyze alternative points of view, and demonstrate real-world application of knowledge and skills through the Capstone course.
The Capstone project, which uses an interdisciplinary approach to address an issue related to a student’s specialization, serves as a showcase of their ability to work independently and apply their skills in a practical setting. Graduates of Liberal Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies programs are prepared for careers in a variety of fields, including technology, entrepreneurship, education, medicine, public administration, hospitality, and marketing.
