The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences to ensure future success. The program also includes the Career Accelerator program, which provides valuable professional skills for a successful career.

The Career Accelerator is specifically designed for international students and includes four semesters of professional development and career guidance, skills-based training, exclusive internship opportunities, workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work.

The Department of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University integrates traditional disciplinary strengths in political science with a multi-disciplinary approach to international relations. With 40 faculty members, an administrative staff of 6, over 100 graduate students, and more than 1500 undergraduate majors, the DPIR offers a diverse range of courses and research opportunities.

Faculty and graduate students conduct research across various geographic regions and thematic areas, including democracy, disasters, environmental treaties, ethnic tensions, foreign policy, gender rights, geopolitics, global governance, political economy, national security, postmodernism, refugees, and human rights.
