Major areas of study include the advanced design and installation of fire protection systems (sprinklers and alarms), leading-edge computer software systems, the governing codes and standards, as well as optional training in fire investigation, insurance and wildland fire suppression.
On completion of the FPT program, students can move forward to the Firefighter, Pre–Service Education & Training (FFP) program for a career in firefighting.
Throughout this program students will develop the following skills:
- Advanced design and installation of fire protection systems (sprinklers and alarms)
- Leading edge computer software systems
- Fire dynamics
- Governing codes and standards
- Optional training in fire investigation, insurance and wildland fire suppression
Students meeting all academic requirements may have the opportunity to complete an optional co-op work term(s) in a formal work environment. In most cases the work term(s) is a full-time paid position completed between two academic semesters.
