Program Description
The English Language Preparation program is a chance to improve your English language skills before beginning your pathway program. This program will you develop the required language skills to be successful in your intended pathway and degree program. 1-Semester Pathway and 2-Semester Pathway pre-sessional English are available. 1-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 overall (5.0 in all subskills) and 2-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 Overall (minimum 4.5 in all sub-skills).
This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Sussex. In the Pre-Master's programme, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon the successful completion of the pathway program.
The Pre-Masters in Business, Media and Social Sciences, provides a route to a variety of postgraduate degrees at the University of Sussex. English language and career skills are combined with subject-specific modules such as social sciences, cultural studies, a variety of business skills like accounting and business management to provide you with a strong foundation for your chosen business, media and social sciences degree.
During the Master of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies, you develop essential journalistic skills in a multimedia context. You explore key theoretical issues and debates about journalism and news production in relation to contemporary media, culture and society.
We focus on fast-changing developments in journalism and media studies. This MA combines both theory and practice. You will:
- learn to research and write for print and digital media, as well as subediting and print news design
- contextualise journalistic practice within a theoretical framework of journalism and media studies
- understand transitional processes in the news landscape at local, regional and global level
- understand current theories and debates surrounding the media and society.
We offer excellent technical facilities. These include a dedicated newsroom, the latest software, video and radio studios, and a suite of digital media laboratories.
